*~The best 5 years!!~*

Yesterday marked the day Erik and I met each other 5 years ago.....
(Erik-19, Me-17)
He was a 19 year old butthead (for lack of a better word).  He was getting ready to start his last quarter of his freshman year of college. Baseball and having fun with baseball buddies were his only interest. School?? Mah..... not so much. If it meant he could play baseball, he would stick with it. Girls?? Yeah girls liked him. Lots of girls. But girls took time. Time away from baseball.... so no thanks.

I was barely 17 (but thought I was extremely mature for my age-ha!). I was a junior in high school, and had just finished my last performance (state) as a Molahiette (Moses Lake drill team).  I was getting ready to move to New Mexico in a few months.... and hated life--> perhaps a little extreme. But really, who moves to New Mexico?? Do they speak English in New Mexico? Do I have to live in a tee pee? And I really have to move my senior year of high school? Who does that? My life was definitely over! (Guess I was not as mature as I once thought).

I had just gotten out of a "long term" relationship (a year and a half- that was "long term" in high school).  I got talked into going out with some girl friends one Saturday night to take my mind off of things.  They were going over to the "baseball players" house.  They were college boys... and baseball players... all the girls thought they were pretty cool when they hung out with them. I would hear conversations about these boys every morning at drill team practice; "A-bomb" this..... "Fitz" that.... All these weird names. "Fudacz" "Hendo" "Capone" "J-mo"..... Who are these fools?!?! I remember always mocking them saying my name was "K-dog". I never knew them and didn't think I would want to know them......

I walked into this house filled with "college" people.  It was not my scene. I felt uncomfortable. I stayed against the door we had entered and hid behind my girlfriends.  I scoped the place out for a half a second and thought "what did I get myself into??" In the middle of that thought I made eye contact with Erik (we was in a back bedroom and we managed to see each other through a door opening with probably 30 people in between). I changed my thought to "dang! I will marry that man one day". Good looks, love at first sight, prayers being answered, premonition.... call it what you would like. He was known as "Fitz" to everyone, but introduced himself, and very politely I may add, as "Erik". He got my number... and the rest is history! haha.
P.S. I was very wrong about all the baseball players.  Some (and by some I mean most) of my all time favorite high school memories involve those boys. I love those boys!! They were like my brothers and I still get excited to hear from any and all of them. Erik made some life long friends with that great group of guys and still calls them his best friends!

Of course it was not as easy as saying "I will marry that man one day" than bam!! We're married. We had a few speed bumps along the way. Okay... maybe more than a few.  We did the whole dating other people. We did the long distance. We went months at a time without seeing each other.  We moved to be together. We proved most people wrong about us. We made life changing sacrifices. We loved each other- we hated each other- we missed each other- we couldn't stand each other- we got frustrated- we laughed until it hurt. I'm confident to say we've been through it all! And guess what?? I wouldn't change it for anything (except maybe the "goodbyes"- those sucked!) BEST 5 YEARS OF MY LIFE!!
